Cary Kaufman, MD presenting 'Taking the Guesswork Out of Intraoperative Margin Management': Breast Cancer Surgery Post COVID-19
Access RecordingThe American Society of Breast Surgeons, the National Comprehensive Cancer Network, and other medical societies released recommendations for Breast Cancer Care during the COVID-19 Pandemic. The recommendations mentioned that re-excision surgeries were classified as Priority C meaning that those surgeries would be delayed until after COVID, however, the concern from surgeons is that they don't know when the end of COVID will be. The disadvantage to pushing these surgeries out is that it delays everything that follows like radiation, adjuvant treatment, and it provides time for the cancer to grow.
During this on-demand webinar, Dr. Cary Kaufman discusses the importance of obtaining clear margins at the time of surgery and how digital breast tomosynthesis aids surgeons during operation to see the extent of the cancer so that they can ensure that they've obtained clear margins.
